For Advertising Sales Agents ·
What you'll accomplish
The objection responses and category knowledge that work best for you live mostly in your head, or scattered across old training notes you rarely reopen. Set up a Gem once with your common categories and objections built in, and you can ask it for a fresh angle on the spot instead of reconstructing your own experience from memory every time.
What you'll need
What you should see: A blank Gem setup screen with a field for instructions and a preview panel to the side. Troubleshooting: If Gems don't appear as an option in your account, the feature may not be available on your current plan or account type yet.
Google's own guidance for building a strong Gem breaks instructions into four parts: persona, task, context, and format. Use that structure here:
Persona: You are an experienced local media sales coach who has heard every objection a business owner raises about advertising.
Task: Give an advertising sales agent three response angles to a stated objection, or three category-specific prospecting angles for a stated business type.
Context: Objections and categories vary by medium (radio, print, outdoor, digital). Ask which medium is involved if it isn't stated. Never invent a specific response rate, return figure, or audience number. If a figure would help make the point, tell the rep to use their own real number instead.
Format: Respond with three short, distinct angles, each two to three sentences, in a tone the rep could say out loud in a meeting.
You can click Use Gemini to re-write instructions if you want help tightening the wording. Review the result before saving.
Under the Knowledge section, click Add files to upload any trade association training material or your own notes on common objections and categories.
What you should see: Uploaded files listed under the Gem's knowledge section, available to every chat with this Gem.
Use the preview panel on the right to test the Gem with a real objection or category before saving. Testing in the preview window does not save your changes on its own, so click Save once you're happy with the result.
What you should see: Three distinct response or prospecting angles, written in a conversational tone rather than a bulleted policy statement.
Practice the angle that fits your own voice before using it live. A response that sounds natural coming from you beats one you read verbatim off the screen, and none of these responses should include a specific number you can't back up in the room.
